Tibet on Foot: A Walking Tour

INTRODUCTION: A number of people have asked if it's possible to get through sections of this Tomb Raider 2 level without a snowmobile. In fact, it's possible to do the entire level on foot. Lara Croft's walking tour of the Tibetan Highlands begins here.

Choose text-only or graphic version. (The graphic version is chock full of useful screenshots.)

The walk-through is the same as usual up until you reach the hut with the two thugs and the snowmobile. (If you're stuck or unfamiliar with the territory, see Stella's Tomb Raider Site - Home of the Definitive Tomb Raider Walk-throughs.) I haven't noted every pickup in this document, but if you're afraid you might miss something, the real walk-through gives all the details.

After killing the guys at the hut and picking up the dragon statue near the barred passage to the right of the hut, hike into the cave on the left. After a while you'll meet another bad guy. Kill him and continue to the large open area with the ramps. Climb up on the wall on the far side of the area and jump to grab the small doorway in the wall. (This is to the left of the opening with the 2 gray blocks.) Follow the passageway to a cave where you'll need to kill 2 leopards.

Go on until you reach a chasm. Jump across on the right side where the gap is smaller. In case you're not in the habit of doing this anyway, you'll need to set up the jump carefully. Walk Lara up to the edge then hop back once. Run and jump, then press Action at the last minute to grab the opposite ledge. Pull up and keep walking.

Soon you'll reach an area with a gap in the center and a path on each side. Go to the right, following the path until you come to a dead end. Climb the ice ladder and pull the switch to open a gate ahead. Climb back down and prepare to kill 2 goons, one on the other side of the chasm, one approaching on the path. Make a U-turn, follow the path to the left and take a simple running jump to clear the gap. Go through the gate you just opened, head down a ramp through a tunnel, then over a high, narrow path, where you'll meet another bad guy.

After this you'll come to the big gap, which can only be crossed using the snowmobile. Instead, jump to the ledge on the right of the opening, take the green dragon, turn and kill the 2 leopards on the ramp, then climb down the ice ladder to the canyon floor. 3 more leopards await. When they're dead, climb up the ladder to the opening on the other side.

Ahead is a large chasm with snowballs perched above. Walk out toward the right side of the opening and let the snow roll. Jump to the slope above the ice ladder (where the snowballs just passed), slide back and grab the edge. Climb down the ladder as far as you can, release and grab the ledge below. Pull up and take the drawbridge key. Go down into the small opening and kill the thug behind the ice wall. Go into the next room, trip the dangling icicles and pull the switch to open the gate. Climb back up the ice ladder to the opening near the big gap and return to the snowball area.

This time stand at the right side of the opening and take a running jump to grab the opposite side. Pull up and continue to the drawbridge area. Use the key to raise the bridge, climb up and walk across. Make a careful run through the avalanche area and continue forward and to the left. After the blast, go to the edge of the next chasm, jump to the snow on the left, slide back and grab the edge. Traverse across the chasm, pull up and head through the opening back to the bridge area.

Pick up the hut key on the ground near the snowbank and take care of the goon on the snowmobile. In case you missed it in the regular walk-through, you can find a safe spot on the snow block just to the right of the key. Stand Lara toward the front of this block and the bad guy can drive behind her but not run her over.

Now return to the hut basically the same way you came. Walk to the chasm with the cave opening on the right the snowball area above on the left. This time the gap is too big to jump because the block you'd jump from is lower than the one on the other side. So instead jump to the slope on the right, slide back, grab the edge and traverse to the right until you're above the ice ladder. Climb down, drop to grab the opening below, and proceed to the deep chasm.

Climb up the ice ladder on the opposite side and jump to the ramp where the dead leopards are. Continue to the next gap, which you cross again with a simple running jump. Keep going to the next gap and cross this one on the left, using the run-jump-grab combo.

Continue past the dead leopards and gray blocks, through the open area with the ramps and into the next cave opening. When you reach the low snow ledge, ready weapons to kill the 2 leopards above. Continue back to the hut and use the key to open it.

The next bit of the walk-through is the same in the original version. It doesn't matter whether you've taken the snowmobile or not. The upshot is use the switch in the hut to open the nearby gate, go through it to the next open area where you'll kill another snowmobiler. Then continue to another deep chasm. Jump and grab the ledge on the left, traverse to the other side, climb down the ladder, avoid the avalanches and take the gold dragon.

Climb back up and continue to another open area where more snowmobilers want to kill Lara. Climb up on the wall on the right to shoot them from safety. Go to the bottom, move the block and enter, kill a sniper below, then climb down to the exit. You CAN drive the snowmobile into the pool and jump to safety. But this is Tibet on Foot, so instead climb over the rocks on the left. Pump up that health meter, then hang and drop to the ledge below. From the wide snowy ledge you can dive into the water or climb down the rocks on the left. Enter a small tunnel in the far right corner. Follow this to the next level.
