Catacombs of the Talion

The Catacombs of the Talion is not very large, but it might keep you running around in aimless circles. Here's what you need to get through.
Watch Your Step!
You should watch your step right away. What's obvious is the deadly icicles hanging above the first walk. What's not obvious is the danger that lies in wait at the bottom of the pit if you happen to accidentally step off the edge.
About Face
If you have difficulty reaching the upper ledge from the slope at the very beginning, try going down the slope backwards and the do the "pull up back flip" move to get to the ledge.
Next on the Agenda
Those mercenaries haven't given up just because you've made it past the monastery. Watch your back when you reach the second landing of the stairs down to the pool. What you need to do next is get to the top of the slope with the boulders. A standing jump will get you from the stairs to the ramp. Of course there'd be an escape when the boulders fall. Take a jump off to the right.
Blind Turns
From the lower ledge, you can see that if you run across the collapsible tiles, you can reach the ladder. The problem occurs when you reach the top of the ladder and realize there's nothing there. Just press the jump button to take a back flip of faith. There's a ledge up there. Really!
Pulling the Plug
Grabbing the mask will drain the pool. Down you go, but don't go blindly traipsing around in the dark. One's liable to get hurt.
Boulderdash
Once you use the first mask, you will get a good look at the trouble that's waiting for you outside. Be careful, though, because there's more trouble out there than just two pairs of boulders rumbling down at you! There are two safe places that you can quickly to get to after avoiding the boulders. We leave that as an exercise for the reader.
Spinning Your Wheels
Don't know why this was so hard for me to figure out, but when things quiet down, the next destination on the itinerary is on the other side of that cave opening in the left wall. Getting to it is a simple matter. Don't try to make it harder than it is.
Wild Animal Park
You thought dealing with four big cats at the same time is bad. Progress slowly when you're inside the next cavern or you'll have six of them to deal with simultaneously. You're looking for a second mask. It's hidden across from the ice wall in the last room of the cavern.
Dark Alleys
People say you should stay away from dark alleys, but the second mask gets you into the building opposite the cave opening, and the door is on the side of the building, in the dark alley. Once inside, you'll hear a lot of scary noises. Don't worry, it doesn't get really scary until you find and pull that lever.
Catch 22
The first lever opens the gates. The second opens the door you want opened, but unfortunately it closes the the gates, trapping you inside. The solution is simple. Look around for something to prop open the gate.
Tight Squeeze
Back to the cave, and this time through the door that was once closed. Problem now is apparent above. Another boulder trap. For your information, safety is to the left.
Ladders to Heaven
One ladder lets you drop into a pool. At the far end of the pool are double doors. The means to open the double doors is right under your nose. Actually it's right above it. Check out that stone column right in front of the doorway. Oh, by now you should be more comfortable with ladders that don't go anywhere, right?
Welcome!
Finally, the first doors you saw are open for you. Get back and check it out. Oh, there's trouble down in the pit, bit also a few rewards. Don't drop into the pit without ample investigation first!
Dodge Boulder
Much like the game we played in elementary school, instead of rubber balls, this time we will play with ice boulders. Success is a matter of a series of jumps with the correct start and end points. We found five successive jumps that did the trick with great ease. Here's some details about how the trap works: The two boulders only roll if Lara jumps onto the slope directly below them. The single boulder will only roll if Lara jumps onto the slope below it, but only after the other two boulders have been set off. Lara must set off the single boulder to break down the ice wall to proceed. Lara could first set off the double boulders, get to safety, then set off the single boulder, but she can also do it all in one long maneuver. The area behind boulders that have rolled past is generally the safer place to be.
Hopscotch
The final puzzle to solve for this level is a matter of speed. There are two pressure plates in the first room. There is a wall of spikes in the next room. The door on the left is opened by the pressure plate on the left. The door in the room beyond is opened by the pressure plate on the right. The door on the right is for when you fail and need to try again. Of course everything is on a short timer. Yes, walking through spikes is the safe thing to do, but you won't have time to be careful. What do we do when we can go through something? Keep your cool, particularly when you finally get through the second door!
