Floating Islands
Items: 39
Kills: 26
The Floating Islands is not a tough level to figure out. The enemies are tough, but most of the level is fairly straightforward. In case it isn't, consult the hints below.
It's a Bird...
It's a Plane...
It's... well... a big guy with a big sword floating around on a sparkling cloud. He may not seem like such a big deal, but as soon as he is within range, open fire. Don't let him land and don't let go until he pops. This is your first taste of what the bad guys on this level are like. These guys fly... others don't. All take enormous amounts of ammo to kill. All explode in a big green show of fireworks. Keep a watchful eye and ear out for bad guys.
Gilded Cage
No. You want to get into that gold cage. It involves a little jumping and sliding. It doesn't matter whether to slide forward or backward down the first long slope, but it does matter where you slide down. The jump off the second slope must take place from at least the middle of the slope, or else you won't make it into the cage. Get familiar with those two slopes. You'll probably be seeing a bit more of them.
Shiny Objects
Short attention span? I'm sure you've spotted that shiny object. The question is: How do you get to it? The answer is that tricky slope you formerly jumped off of. This time, perhaps something a little less exciting? It's a long fall. How do we prevent getting really hurt from long falls?
Earthquake Safe
That house is quite safe. There are some objects inside that are of interest to you. Getting there might be a problem, if you're trying to jump from the little green islands. In case you didn't know: if you fall too far, you can't grab a ledge. Try a higher point on the destination. Oh, get to know this little island. It will become your friend in a moment.
Nowhere to Go...
...but down actually. There are more floating islands off to the left and no apparent way to get over to them. If you've examined the rocky island that the small house is floating above, you'll notice there's some interesting stuff beneath this rocky island. Don't let your desire to head off to the left blind you to the actual path that will lead you there.
Hop, Skip, Jump
Now it's just a matter of getting from island to island. The final destination is that huge dark rocky island with the gateway. Yup, you guessed it. Those plaques find their resting place there.
Fun's Just Started
With the double doors open, you'll realize that the fun's just begun. There's a bad guy as you enter. The next destination is to the left. A boulder blocking your way, you say? Hey, no problem, just jump over it. But you know that as soon as you do that, it'd flatten you, right? Well, you're right. Not only that, there's a second boulder coming at you from the other way too. It's a loose-loose situation. Getting out of it involves a couple of simple jumps.
Target Practice
That rope slide is an opportunity to practice your physics. Things in motion tend to stay in motion. When gravity is also doing some work, we have what's called a parabolic trajectory. It's just as if you're a bomber, and your job is to bomb that bridge below.
Poke Me, I'm Done!
Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! More angry guys with spears. That first one is bad enough. Wonder why the other two aren't moving? Pull that lever and you'll find out. Remember that these guys are hard to take down. You might want to make tracks. Speaking of tracks. When you reach the bottom of the rope slide, you'll notice there's no place to drop to below. Better grab onto something before you get broiled in the lava pit below. Hey, that lever? Did you notice which steel door it opens? It's time to get back to that first rope slide. Good thing its self resetting.
Blades and a Spikey Place
The end of this rope slide is a hallway that leads to a room full of spikes or another room with shooting blades and swinging blades. Let's just say, both choices are bad ones. You know that one of Lara's amazing feats is that she can change her heading in the middle of a jump, right? Well, there's a jump that will get you out of this hallway onto greener pastures.
Push and Pull
After an unfriendly encounter with a couple more guys with swords, there's the matter of that block. Use it now to get to the platform above. There's a lever up there that does something to that long pit full of flaming lava. To get down to the lava pit, go to the side that won't slide you to a flaming death. There's a lever down there that does something very interesting.
Gee, I Wish I Could Fly
Getting into that big trapdoor will take a little effort. Not just any jump will do. You need to employ a trick that we hope you've learned by now. After you've overshot and undershot the trapdoor, you'd best go back to read the General Guide and learn all about the jumps.
Wading Pool
After you've had your fun wading around in the pool and have opened that door above the rope slide outside, now it's time to get out of here. The exit is not at all clearly marked. Search around and you'll find your way. Next room look familiar? It's the one we told you to avoid earlier. It's still a nasty ride, but if you've got a flare in your hands, I'm sure you'd find that there's a better way to get out of there.
Multi-Purpose
That block has lots of uses. You used it to get up to that platform. Now use it to get into that doorway you just opened. Once inside, you'll find that a closed gate. That's where you want to go, but first you have to open that gate. Now comes that other room we told you to avoid earlier. Not sure what to do? Just toss a flare or two into the room and see if you can't figure it out. A running jump will smash Lara's head into the wall, and she'll rebound into the spikes below, so that's the wrong jump. Got it?
The Hole Story
The two Xian spearsmen might be giving you a bit of a nervous twitch, but they won't wake up just yet. So your only choice is that hole in the middle of the room. Let me just say, that if you slide down forward, you're going to fall to your death. If you slide down backwards, you're going to fall to your death. Confused yet? You need to perform a specific action to safely get you to the room below. Then your problems will be just beginning.
Unfair Advantage
Four on one seems like an unfair match. But look at it this way, they've just got measly daggers, and you're armed like a small army. If you've finished the original Tomb Raider, then you should be able to figure out the technique that will defeat these dagger-throwing enemies. If you didn't play the first game, here's your hints: First, you don't have to stand around and let them nail you to the wall. Secondly, as good as their aim is, once they throw their daggers, the daggers will always travel in a straight line.
Lara-Kababs
There's a lot of spearsmen in this room. We know that they can't fly. You suppose there's anything else they can't do because their hands are busy holding those two big spears? When you've dealt with all of them, there's a couple of levers that they were guarding.
Dying to Leave
The exit from the cage room will involve another encounter with a priest, and another encounter with multiple spearsmen. Certainly the priest is easy enough to deal with, but what to do about those two spearsmen? Answer is simple. It's right under your nose. It worked before, why shouldn't it work again?
Corporate Ladder
Often times, in order to get ahead, you're going to have to bend over backwards. This climb is no different. They give you hints as to what you need to do. Just be careful not to bump your head on that first jump.
Deja Jumps
Here's a familiar situation. Lara, caught bouncing between two slopes. They throw in a shooting blade and a dagger throwing priest this time. To have gotten here, you must know what you need to do. Just do it quickly!
Slide Home
One more rope slide to get out. What's this? It appears to be out of reach. Hmm... I wonder what you can use to give yourself a boost. Just stay out of the path of those blades.
