Floating Islands

Lara will begin this level standing on a mountain crest. Run forward to the end of the grassy green ridge and draw Uzis. In the distance to the right, Lara will see a shadow flying through the air. When the swordsman (1) comes into range, open fire and back away slowly. Do not allow the swordsman to land by continuing firing until the swordsman explodes. Turn left and walk down the rocky slope toward the edge of this floating island and pick up a small Medi Pack (1).

Return to the upper green ledge and turn left. Walk forward along the left side the of the ridge and return to the very end of the green ridge. Take two steps back, away from the edge, and angle Lara slightly to the right. Then take a standing jump forward to the left slope of another small green floating island and land such that Lara slides down the slope backwards. Grab the bottom edge of the slope. If Lara is not hanging from the center of this ledge, shimmy to the right until Lara is at hanging from at least the middle of this ledge. Pull up and take a back flip and Lara will land on another slope. When Lara is at the center of the second slope, take a jump and grab to reach the fenced structure opposite the small slope. If she jumps too late, she will not be able to reach the opposite ledge. Pull up and run forward up the stairs. At the far end of the hallway, pull the lever to open a trapdoor elsewhere1.

Turn around and run back to the entryway that Lara pulled up from and safety drop down to a rocky slope below. Lara will slide down the rock slope. Draw Uzis and when Lara stops sliding, turn left and face another swordsman (2) that has just been awakened. Open fire on it until it explodes. After the swordsman is dead, run forward until reaches a ledge. Boost up onto the ledge and turn left. Vault up onto the next ledge and run forward to climb two more ledges. Run forward to vault back onto the green ridge above. Turn left and and walk forward along the left edge of this ridge until Lara reaches the left corner of the ledge.
Mystic Plaque #1
Take two steps back and turn Lara slightly to the right and take a standing jump onto the left slope of the island ahead. Make sure that Lara is sliding backwards down the slope. When Lara slides off the bottom, grab the bottom of the slope and safety drop to the ledge below, taking a slight amount of damage. Take a running jump to the small island ahead and pick up the first Mystic Plaque (2). Turn slightly to the left and aim Lara just right of the center peak of the next floating island. Take a running jump and grab to reach the next small island. If Lara aims too far to the right, the slope will be out of her reach and she will plummet to her death.
Mystic Plaque #2
Draw pistols and take a standing jump from the small island to the large island with the building on it. Immediately, back flip back to the small island as the left spearsman (3) is awakened and attacks. Open fire, and continue firing until he explodes. Take a standing jump over to the large island. Run forward and take a jump and grab to climb up into the trapdoor that Lara opened earlier. Pull up and pick up a large Medi Pack (3), a box of flares (4), two pairs of Uzi clips (5, 6), and the second Mystic Plaque (7). When Lara picks up the second plaque, the center spearsman (4) will awaken. With a little patience, Lara can actually lock on to the spearsmen from above and shoot at them from within the building. After the spearsman explodes, drop down to the ground below.
SECRET #1
After dropping to the ground, walk over to the jade ledge that the center spearsman was formerly standing on. Turn and walk to the right until Lara is standing on the square adjacent to the third spearsman. Take a running jump diagonally to the left so that Lara lands on the flatter slope behind and to the right of the third spearsman. Turn around and take a standing jump and grab to reach the roof of this floating building. Pull up and run forward and pick up SECRET #2, the jade dragon (8). Safety drop back to the ground below this building.
In order to wake up the third spearsman, stand in front and slightly to the left of the left lantern, which is near a tree. Take a side flip to the left and Lara will land on a slope and begin sliding forward. Take a jump off the slope and Lara will land on another slope and slide to the right while the last spearsman (5) comes to life. Quickly run forward and to the right and take a running jump to the small island. Turn around and draw pistols and kill the last spearsman from the safety of the small island.

When the last spearsman is dead take a standing jump back to the larger island and turn right. Run all the way to the right and carefully stand at the very edge of the island. Turn around and hang from the side of the island. Lara should be able to see a cavern below. Shimmy so that Lara is positioned above the top of a hump in the ground below. Release the upper ledge and grab the ledge below. Pull up and run forward down the slope. Take a hairpin turn to the left to find a lever. Pull the lever to open the facing gate. Turn around and run to the opposite side of this cavern. Take a running jump to the small ledge in front of the open gate, and walk out to the end of the gate, which is now acting as a drawbridge.

Take a running jump from the gate to the next island. Run forward until Lara reaches the other end of the island and turn left. Take a standing jump over the slope to the highest point of this island. Take a running jump and grab to reach the next island. Turn right and run forward until Lara reaches a steep slope. Take a standing jump over the slope to reach the apex of this island. Turn left and and run forward, dropping off the high ledge, until Lara reaches the end of this island. Turn left and take a running jump and grab to reach the small island. Turn right and take a running jump that is slightly angled to the right and a grab to reach the stepped island. Turn right and climb up the three steps until Lara is at the top of the island. Turn right and take a running jump to the next island, which arches to the right.

Turn right and run up the green arch five blocks, and reverse roll onto the sixth block. Draw weapons and run back down to the end of this island to find that the swordsman (6) on the right has awakened and is now floating toward Lara. Open fire while backing away from the edge carefully. Eventually the swordsman will be defeated. Turn around and continue to the end of this island, where it touches the golden fenced structure. Reverse roll on top of the fence, draw weapons, if Lara isn't still wielding them, and run back to the other end of the island. The left swordsman (7) has awakened, so open fire on him while backing away. Keep firing until this swordsman explodes. Return to the lower end of the island and take a running jump and grab to reach the rocky island that the two swordsmen formerly were. Pick up two pairs of Uzi clips (9, 10) from in front of each of the two alcoves. Now place the two mystic plaques in their receptacles to open the doorway. The plaque with the symbol that is a circle that is divided in half by a horizontal line goes in the right receptacle, while the plaque with the 'S' shaped symbol goes in the left one.

Step inside the gates and draw weapons. Walk forward, and a swordsman (8) will float up from below on the left of the bridge. Open fire and hop backwards until the swordsman explodes. Enter the gates again and just inside of the courtyard, to the right of the gates, Lara will find to sets of automatics clips (11, 12).
SECRET #2
Turn left and walk up into the dark corner behind the tree. There is a small cave hidden in the darkness behind the tree. Walk towards the slope until Lara will walk no further. Take a standing jump over the slope into the tunnel above. Turn left and run forward. At the far end of the tunnel, Lara will drop down to a slope and slide to the left. Pick SECRET #2, the stone dragon (13). Turn around and take a standing jump diagonally to the right to clear the slope and return to the tunnel. Turn right and run back to the beginning of the tunnel. Turn right and take a standing jump diagonally to the left to land back in the courtyard.
Turn and head across to the other side of the courtyard to the tall green rock formation. Turn right and take a standing jump up the the green slope. Turn left to find a boulder blocking Lara's way. Take a standing jump forward over the boulder. Lara will land on a slope and slide forward. When Lara comes to a stop, the boulder behind her will begin to roll. Take a standing jump forward to the opposite ledge and a second green boulder ahead will roll towards her. Take a back flip to the previous ledge, as the first boulder rolls past, to avoid the second boulder. Turn around and face away from the hole that the two boulders fell into, and step backwards off the ledge. Lara will land on a slope below and slide to the bottom. Grab the bottom edge and release to make sure that Lara doesn't go sliding off this island.

Turn left, draw weapons, and step forward. On the ledge above, another swordsman (9) will awaken, so open fire until it explodes. Lara can back into the corner where she landed on, but she should be able to kill the swordsman without having to run around too much. After the swordsman is dead, run diagonally across the large flat ledge to the right. In the shadows, Lara can find a small Medi Pack (14). Turn around and run towards the green rock formation and Lara will find a hole that leads up into a building.

Pull up into the building and run around to the left side of the green column. Pull up onto the column and turn around. Jump and grab the roof, and pull up onto the roof. Step forward and pull up onto the ledge above. Run forward and Lara will slide back into the courtyard. Step forward and take a standing jump over the slope. Turn left and run up the slope and slide down the slope again. Take a standing jump forward over the gap to the opposite ledge. Walk forward until Lara reaches the flat part of the ledge. Turn right and take a running jump and grab to reach the small island. Step forward to the rope slide.

Grab onto the handles of the rope slide and Lara will zip down the rope through a small cave opening. Release the handles just before Lara is over the bridge so that her momentum carries her to the bridge and not beyond it. Draw Uzis and turn right. Enter the building and turn left. Step forward and a wall will rise, revealing dormant spearsmen. As Lara approaches, the center spearsman (10) will awaken. Open fire while hopping backwards to the doorway. Turn right and backflip onto the bridge while firing the whole time. When the spearsman is dead, reenter the room and head toward the remaining two. There is a switch in between the two. When Lara pulls the lever a large gate will open and the two statues will come to life2. Pull the lever and take a hop back. Draw powerful weapons and kill the two spearsmen (11, 12) by jumping around the room.

When the spearsmen are dead, walk to the alcove opposite the switch to find another rope slide. Grab the handles and slide down until Lara reaches the end. Lara will release the handles when she reaches the end of the rope slide, but keep the action key depressed to grab the lattice-work on the wall. Climb up to reach a ledge, and pull up to the ledge. Climb up the right side of the lattice-work and shift to the right and release to reach the green ledge. Turn right and walk to the end of the small ledge and turn around. Hang from the ledge and shimmy to the left. Release when Lara is dangling over the floor below.

Turn around and walk forward. Climb up onto the green column once again, and turn around. Climb up onto the roof of this building. Run forward and climb onto the rock formation. Run forward and slide down to the courtyard again. Step forward and take a standing jump back up to the green ledge. Turn left and run forward to slide down the slope. Take a standing jump over the gap to the next ledge. Walk forward until Lara reaches the flat part of the slope, and then turn right to take a running jump and grab to reach the small island.

Lara will find that the rope slide has reset itself. This time, grab the handle and continue riding it past the steel gate that Lara opened earlier until Lara lands in a small green hallway. Ahead and to the left are rooms that lead to dead end traps. Turn around and take a slightly angled running jump to reach a ledge to the left of the rope slide. Draw weapons as a swordsman (13) appears on the left. Turn to fac it and open fire. If it gets too close, backflip over the gap to the opposite side and continue firing. Keep it in view when it tries to hide behind the pillars. When Lara lands on the opposite side, a second swordsman (14) will appear from the beyond the pillars. Continue firing until it explodes as well.

Turn around to find the movable block. Pull it once so that it is not beneath the path of the blades. Run around to the right side and push it twice so that it's against the wall. Climb onto the block, and turn around. Climb onto the platform above. Walk forward around to the opposite side of the column that is in the center of the platform to find a lever. Pull the lever, to extend a short bridge across a lava pool below, and then turn right. Run forward and climb up onto the ledge. Pick up the two sets of M-16 clips (15, 16), then turn around and drop back to the platform. Run forward, past the column, and turn left. Drop back down to the block below, and turn around and drop to the floor.

Turn right and take a standing jump across the long pit. Turn right and walk to the right side of the room. Hang and drop into the pit. Blades will be shooting across the pit so hug this wall. Turn left and drop down to the step below. Back up so that Lara's back is against the higher step and take a standing jump down to the bridge that Lara created earlier. Turn right and enter the alcove to find a lever. Pull the lever to open a large trapdoor in the lava on the other side of the room. Turn around and walk to the opposite side of the small bridge. Turn left and take a standing jump and grab to reach the right side of the lowest step. Pull up and run forward, hugging the right wall, and pull up to the step above. Turn right and pull up to the floor of the room.

Step forward and climb up onto the movable block. Turn right and climb up to the platform above. Turn left and run forward to the raised ledge and climb up to the top of the ledge. Sidestep to the right until Lara is aimed squarely in the center of the trapdoor beyond. Take a running jump into the trapdoor, and press the action key to change Lara's trajectory so that she will drop into the hole. When Lara lands in the water grab the shotgun shells (17) and surface. Tread water towards the shallow end of the pool, and when Lara can stand, run forward and pull the lever to open a door above the rope slide above.

Turn around and head back into the pool. Swim down deep to the bottom of the pool and in the far left corner there is a tiny underwater tunnel that Lara can swim into. Follow the tunnel as it turns to the right and surface in the next room. Light a flare if necessary, and turn around. Above the underwater tunnel that Lara just swam through, there is an alcove. Pull up into the alcove and pull the lever on the right wall to stop the swinging blades. Turn right and drop back into the water. Surface and enter the hallway that was once blocked with blades, and run forward to the room beyond. Stand to the right of the shooting blades and pull up to the next ledge. Climb up onto the next ledge, staying clear of the blades, and vault up to the hallway above.

Turn right and walk to the end of the hallway. Take a running jump diagonally to the right to return to the floor of the room outside. Run forward across the room and pull the moveable block four times. Run around to the right side and push it once so that it is against the edge of the pit. Run around to the right side of the block and push it once so that it is against the pillar. Climb onto the block and step forward and towards the right corner, but not all the way forward into the corner. Turn right and take a diagonal standing jump and grab to reach the passageway that Lara just opened. By grabbing, Lara will change her trajectory and land in the passageway rather than grabbing the bottom of it.

Enter the next room and walk forward into the dark passsageway ahead and to the left. Light a flare to improve visibility. Walk forward until Lara is standing at the very edge of the ake a standing jump and grab to reach a crevice in the opposite wall. Shimmy to the right and pull up. Step forward to pull a lever that raises the gate in the previous room. Turn around and take a standing jump diagonally to the right and grab to reach the doorway. Pull up to return to the opposite room. Run forward and turn right and enter the next room.

In the next room there is a pit in the middle of the room. Walk forward and turn right. Step up onto the rim that surrounds the pit and look down to find the ramp that leads down. Turn around and slide backwards down the slope. Use the action key to slow Lara's fall when she hits the little drop in the ramp, and grab the very bottom of the ramp and safety drop to the floor.

Lara will find herself in a cage with a lever behind her. Currently there are two dagger throwing cult priests (15, 16) running around outside the cage, but when Lara pulls the lever, the cage will open and two more cult priests (17, 18) will arrive. With great patience, she can try to defeat the first two priests by pulling up onto the ledge and shoot at them with Uzis or automatics when they run past the back corners of the room. What will probably do the job is to first ready the Uzis. Pull the lever, draw the Uzis and take a hop back and a backflip. At this point open fire while jumping side to side, being careful not to jump off the edge and into the lava pits on the sides. Continue firing and jumping side to side, remembering to release the action key intermittently to insure that you are not firing on a dead priest. When all four are dead, collect a large Medi Pack (18) and shotgun shells (19) from one priest, two boxes of shotgun shells (20, 21) from the second, two Uzi clips (22, 23) from the third, and Uzi clips (24) and a small Medi Pack (25) from the last.

Now walk forward toward the side of the cage with the switch. Stand to either side of the switch and turn and face the side of the room, step off the raised platform that was formerly the cage and two spearsmen (19, 20) will awaken. Immediately turn around and run back to the ledge. Pull up and draw pistols and reverse roll. From the safety of this upper ledge, kill the two spearsmen. When both are dead, drop to the ground and run forward past the switch. Another spearsman (21) ahead will awaken. Reverse roll and run back to the ledge. Climb up onto the ledge, reverse roll and draw pistols. Open fire on this third spearsman until it explodes. Now run around to the alcove with the last inactive spearsman. Stand in front of the alcove and reverse roll into it. Immediately run forward as the spearsman (22) comes to life and head straight back to the ledge. Climb up and reverse roll. Draw pistols and kill this last spearsman.

When all the spearsmen are dead, enter the left alcove and pull the lever to open the large double doors in the room above, and then enter the right alcove and pull the other lever to raise the gate at the other end of this room. Draw weapons and approach the newly opened gateway by running towards it between the green columns. As soon as Lara passes the columns she will take aim on a priest (23) that is hidden in the darkness beyond. Take a side flip to avoid his daggers, and a back flip to distance Lara from the priest. Side flip back and forth in front of the gateway while firing to kill this priest. When he's dead, collect a large Medi Pack (26) and a pair of automatics clips (27) from him. Continue into the gateway and up the stairs.

The stairway widens and spirals to the left. At the second turn, pick up two sets of grenades (28, 29) that are in the corner and continue to the top. The stairway will take a bend to the right. Ahead and to the right is a lever. When Lara pulls the lever, the double door swill open and the two spearsmen (24, 25) that flank the doorway will become animated. Run directly past them and take a running jump over the hole in the middle of the room to land on the slope. Press the action key to slow Lara's descent, and grab the bottom of the ramp. Safety drop back into the room below and side step to one side and climb onto the ledge. Wait patiently as the spearsmen make their way down the stairs. When the arrive in the room below, open fire and on them from the safety of this ledge. They will retreat upstairs when Lara fires on them, but she can drop down to the floor to lure them back. When both are dead, continue up the stairs back to the room above.

Turn right and enter the doors that Lara opened earlier. Climb the lattice-work just to the left of the lava pool and spikes. When Lara is one square short of the top of the lattice, press the jump key followed by the up arrow to back flip off the lattice and twist in midair. Grab the opposite lattice. Continue climbing and then shift to the left until Lara is hanging on where the wall behind the lattice work is red. Once again, press the jump key followed by the up arrow to back flip off the lattice and twist in midair. Grab the lattice work that is on the opposite wall. Climb to the top of the ledge and pull up. Press jump and Lara will start bouncing between two slopes with blades shooting down the length of the room below her. Press the left arrow as Lara jumps forward to angle her to the left. Lara will be safe when she is clear of the pit. Draw weapons and turn left to find another priest (26) in this hallway with the shooting blades. Open fire and jump some more between the two slopes to avoid his daggers. When he's dead, collect shotgun shells (30) from him being careful to stay clear of the path of the blades.

Walk forward to the end of this hallway and turn left. Lara will find a movable block. Pull the block once, and then climb onto the block. Drop down the other side and push it once so that it blocks the path of the shooting blades.
SECRET #3
Now turn around and face the rocks to the left of the pit. Take a running jump to land on a somewhat flat area beyond the outermost rocks. Turn right and run to the other end of this room, sliding down a slope at the other end. Turn right and walk out onto a rock ledge and take a standing jump slightly to the right to reach a flat ledge below. Turn around and take a running jump, using the action key to change Lara's trajectory, to land in a dark tunnel below the ledge above. Light a flare to help improve visiblity and turn right and run forward. Turn left and continue to the top of the next passageway. Vault up twice to clear the two lower steps at the top of this passage, and finally climb up out of this passage. Turn right and run forward to pick up SECRET #3, the gold dragon (31) and eight sets of grenades (32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39).

Turn around and run back down this ledge, and turn left and drop back into the hole. Drop down to the floor of this tunnel, and run down the tunnel and turn right. At the other end of this tunnel turn left so that Lara is back at the lava pit. Take a running jump and grab straight across the pit and Lara will grab onto the lower edge of a sloped ledge. Pull up and jump to back flip off the slope back onto the ledge that extends into the room. Turn around and run forward. Turn left and take a standing jump over the sloped rocks, and run to the opposite end of the room. Take a running jump and grab to return to the ledge next to the movable block.
Climb onto the block and turn left. Grab onto the handles of the rope slide to slide across the lava pit and exit this level.

Footnotes:
  1. If Lara misses the grab, she will just have to deal with the swordsman, that listed next, first and then climb up and try the jump and grab again.
  2. A fight with these two spearsmen can be awfully hard to survive, according to Guillaume Cormier, who reported the following to the alt.games.tombraider newsgroup, fire three grenades at each of the two remaining spearsmen statues, before they've been awakened. When they are awakened, they will be much weaker and will fall with far fewer bullets. Guillaume also notes that if you you are running the PC-CDROM version and you launch a fourth grenade at the spearsmen, then the game will crash. That's why the magic number is three. I've tried this on my game and it doesn't work for me. So give it a try, and if it works, great. If it doesn't. You'll just have to do it the hard way.
