Offshore Rig

The sea-plane carrying Bartoli, his men, and an unconscious Lara Croft, flies past an inconspicuous off shore rig. Circling around, the plane lands in the calm waters, as enormous hangar doors open in the side of the ocean rig. The plane slowly taxis into the hanger.

When Lara regains consciousness, she finds herself stripped of her weapons and locked in a cell on some sort of deep sea rig. The first order of business is getting out. The second? Retrieving her weapons and dispensing a little justice.



Start by turning left and pushing the first grey faded metal crate once, revealing a second crate to the right. Now turn right and push that crate once. Climb up onto the crate and drop down on the left side. Turn around and push that crate twice. Now turn around again and to find a third crate. Pull that crate once, and then climb onto it. Drop down the other side, then push the crate twice. Lara has now revealed the switch that opens the timed cell door as well as cleared the path from the switch to the door.

Now enter the hidden passageway, and throw the switch. Immediately reverse, run forward, turning left, then right, then right again. The cell door should be open on the left, so run through. Once through the doorway, an alarm will sound and a couple of enemies will be alerted to Lara's escape, immediately turn left and run into the dark passageway, where the enemies await. Do not run up the ramp, which will trigger the two barrels, but instead charge the two enemies and run and jump past them. Run forward and turn right and run up the stairs and take a right at the top of the stairs. Stand adjacent to the windows and wait for the crewman to follow. If the thug arrives first, charge him and run back towards the jail cell and then back to the windows. Lara needs to draw the gunfire of the crewman fire in order to shoot out one or more of the windows1. Run through the broken window and turn right. Run forward and drop off the end of the ledge.

After dripping of the ledge, immediately on the right is a button. Press the button to open a bay door underneath the plane, which happens to be under water. Reverse direction and dive into the water and swim quickly underneath the plane and surface inside the airplane through the bay door Lara just opened. Exit the water and push the button to stop the plane engines.

Once the plane engines have stopped, drop back into the water, and turn around. Swim toward the tail of the plane and then turn left2 and head towards the left back corner where there is a giant underwater propeller. Lara must be very careful to avoid swimming in the water that is directly in front of the propeller because it will suck her in and kill her. To the left of the propeller is a lever. Throw it to open a small door to her right. Now surface, being careful not to swim to the right in front of the propeller, for Lara to catch her breath.

Dive back down and swim away from the fan, and around the underwater barrels on the floor of the rig. Lara will not be sucked into the propeller if she stays out of the area between the barrels and the fan. Swim back toward the propeller, hugging the right wall. Turn right and enter the underwater doorway that she just opened. Make a hairpin left turn while swimming upwards up the tunnel, doing a little zig to the right past the bend, then forward and then surface for air. To the left is a dark passageway.
Pistols
Pull up into the dark passageway and run forward down the corridor. Lara will end up back in the hangar area. Jump over the gap in the floor and continue forward past the windows Lara came through earlier. Drop off the left side of the ledge instead of the far side, which is where Lara dropped off earlier, and run towards the sea-plane. Run along the left side of the steel ramp, and take a running jump and grab right onto the engine of the plane. Lara should somehow manage to grab onto the wing of the sea-plane. Pull up quickly and run to the fuselage of the plane and toward the tail, where Lara will drop through a panel and into the plane's cargo hold. In front of her are her trusty pistols (1). Pick them up, then turn around and climb the ladder.
Yellow Pass Card
Now it's pay-back time. Use the ladder to climb up out of the cargo hold, and ready weapons. If possible, take out the thug (1) and the crewman (2) from the plane. If necessary, either jump back to the steel ramp or swim back to the ledge in front of the jail cell. After the two enemies are dead, pick up a large Medi Pack (2) from the dead thug and a Yellow Pass Card (3) from his gun-toting companion.

Return to the room with the windows and security monitors, and insert the pass card into the lock on the right wall. It opens one of the steel doors to the right of Lara. Run through the door, and push the the button at the end of the hall to deactivate the alarm. Now run up the set of stairs on the right. At the end of the stairs, Lara will find a sealed door. Open the door, ready pistols, reverse directions and back into the room. A thug (3) will appear, so kill him and take his small Medi Pack (4).

Now run through the hallway toward the metal ramp that leads up to a doorway. Another thug (4) will emerge at the top of the ramp. Kill him and take his large Medi Pack (5). The door at the top of the ramp will close automatically if Lara approaches it. Instead, open the door on the right wall, and ready pistols. Take a step into the room and immediately back out of the room. Another thug (5) will emerge from the right. After dispatching him, take a large Medi Pack (6) from his body. Now it is safe to enter the room.
Harpoon Gun & Automatics
Upon entering the room, immediately turn left and grab two sets of clips for the automatics (7, 8). Then turn right and head for the steel-barred windows. In front of the second window from the left are two sets of harpoons (9, 10). Now enter the doorway ahead to an area with bunk beds. Run to the end of the rows of bunk beds and on the lower bunk on the left are the harpoon gun (11) and some harpoons (12). Now head back toward the doorway, and on the upper bunk on Lara's left are her automatic pistols (13) and some clips for the automatics (14).

After Lara has picked up all these items, she should continue back toward the doorway, and climb up onto the the upper bunk on her right. There, she will find a button on the left. Push the button to open a trap door in the ceiling at the other end of the room. Lara must move quickly as this trapdoor is on a timer. Reverse directions, drop down off the upper bunk and run down the hall toward the trap door. Climb onto the upper bunk on the right close to the back wall, and then turn around. Take a standing jump and grab to pull up into the passage way above.

Once inside the passageway, walk forward and turn left. Lara will come to a long ramp. Turn and face away from the ramp, and slide down the ramp backwards, grabbing the bottom of the ramp to prevent a nasty fall. The ramp opens to a ladder, so climb down the ladder to the ground below. Once on the ground try to stay as far away from the flames as possible.
Red Pass Card
Recessed in wall opposite the flames are two steel crates. Facing the two crates, pull the left crate once to bring it into the room. Now, run around to its right side and pull the crate once so that it is in the center of the room. How climb over the crate to the opposite side and push the crate once. Now turn left and face the other crate. Pull it out once so that it is in the middle of the room. Now carefully sidestep to the left to avoid being burned, and then run around behind the crate and push it once, so that it is against the flames. Now climb up onto the crate and take a running jump over the flames grabbing onto the ladder on the opposite side. Climb up the ladder and pull up into the passageway above. Ready pistols and walk forward and turn right. Another thug (6) will charge down the stairs towards Lara. Take him out quickly and collect the Red Pass Card (15) from him. And continue down the passageway.
SECRET # 1
Part way down the passage, just before Lara reaches the steps, climb up the ladder on the left to the top of the rig to find SECRET #1, the stone dragon (16). After enjoying the view, climb back down the ladder.
Continue up the steps to the end of the hallway, turning right at the top. Step forward until Lara comes to the open shaft, then dive into the water.
SECRET #2
Now swim down to the bottom of the pool, where there is a lever. Pull the lever to open an underwater trapdoor elsewhere and surface for air. It's a long underwater sequence, so Lara will need it. Be careful to follow the next set of directions precisely so as not to run out of air. At any point if Lara gets hung on a corner in the first half of the directions, turn around and surface for air. She will need nearly her entire oxygen supply for this. While on the surface of the water, maneuver Lara such that she is facing the underwater tunnel with her back against the opposite wall, while to her right is a lower tunnel, and to her left is the upper tunnel she dived in from. Light a flare to help see what's going on. Now swim down and forward into the tunnel, veering to the a left tunnel bends. At the next bend slow down and make a hairpin right turn and immediately swim down through the trapdoor that was opened by the lever. Swim forward, and up into the room on the other side of the giant propeller. Immediately release the jump/swim button and grab SECRET #2, the Jade Dragon (17), being careful not to swim to the left into the path of the propeller, reverse directions and head back. Swim back down through the tunnel and up past the trap door. Make a hairpin turn to the right and exit through the underwater door that Lara opened earlier. As soon as Lara passes through the doorway, turn left and hug the wall to avoid being sucked into the deadly propeller, then surface for air.

Dive back underwater and reenter the underwater door. Make a hairpin left turn while swimming upwards up the tunnel, doing a little zig to the right past the bend, then forward and up for air.
Tread water over to the lower tunnel, and pull up into it. Run forward, following the bend in the tunnel to the left, where Lara will find herself back in the large hanger with the sea plane. Turn right and run along the ledge, taking a standing jump over the to the control room with the, now broken, windows. Run down the steps and back through the steel door that the yellow pass card opened. Ready weapons and run up the left set of stairs, taking a hairpin turn to the right at the top. A doberman (7), and a crewman (8) are guarding the next room, so kill them quickly, hopping backward down the stairs to avoid them if necessary. When they are dead, collect a set of Uzi clips (18) from the crewman.

In the room that the doberman and crewman were, with the pipes on two of the walls, Lara will find a ramp up with barrels at the top. The barrels will roll down before Lara can set onto the ramp. Therefore, take a side flip to the left to avoid them. When they have safely come to a rest at the bottom, continue up the ramp and to the left, using the Red Pass Card to open the door at the top.

Once the door is open, immediately ready the automatics and turn and face the doorway. Have Lara take one step into the doorway, with her side pressed against the right side of the doorway to lock onto the rig worker (9) inside and step back and open fire. Do not enter the room past the doorway yet. When the rig worker is dead, rush into the room and an alarm will sound, alerting enemies of Lara's presence. Take out one thug (10) that will appear from the right and another thug (11) that charges in through the doorway from behind. After both thugs are dead, collect a box of shotgun shells (19) from the crewman, a box of flares (20) from the first thug, and a small Medi Pack (21) from the second thug.

Now take a jump from the sloped ramp to the grated walkway that the crewman was running around on. In the far back corner of, Lara will find a steel crate. Push it forward once. Now reverse and run back and drop down to the floor of the room. Run to the back of the room, and climb up to the little ledge that protrudes from a dark tunnel. Inside, Lara will find the crate that she just pushed in. Pull it out once. Now take a jump back to the grated walkway, and enter the tunnel that was created by moving the crate, and get behind the crate and push it once more so that it comes out onto the ledge. Now drop back down to the floor, run to the right side of the room and climb up onto the ledge. Ahead of Lara are two tanks. The near one is empty and the far one is full of water. Turn around and take a running jump and grab to grab onto the steel crate that Lara just pushed out, and pull up to it.

Once Lara is on the crate, turn and face right, where there is a tunnel high up in the room. Step backward and to the right until Lara is backed to the near right corner of the crate and aim her slightly to the right, lining her up with the tunnel. Perform a standing jump and grab to reach the tunnel, and pull up. Ready pistols and run forward, turning right at the bend in the tunnel, and charge ahead into a control room to find another rig worker (12). Take him down quickly, and collect some shotgun shells (22) from him.

Continue down the stairs and enter the control room and throw the switch on the left wall to drain the far tank and fill the closer take with water. Run back up the stairs, turning left at the bend in the tunnel and either safety drop to the floor, or run out to the right to land on the steel crate and then drop to the floor.

Climb back up to the ledge on the right side of the room, and dive into the water. Swim across to the other side and pull up out of the water. After surfacing, turn right and walk along the edge of the water tank until Lara readhes the pipes. Take a hop back and then take a standing jump over to clear the pipes and land on the steel duct on the other side. Turn left and take a jump to the top of the duct, and throw the switch on the left wall. The switch opens a trap door in the floor of the control room.

Turn left and slide back down the ramp and dive into the water. Swim across the tank and resurface on the other side. Line Lara up with the steel crate, and again take a running jump and grab to reach the steel crate. Once again, stand such that Lara can take a standing jump and grab to reach the upper tunnel. Run back to the control room and drop into the open trap door.

Run down the tunnel and slide down the long ramp. When Lara reaches the steel grated catwalk, immediately turn right and run all the way to the end of the walkway, while readying pistols. There are two scuba divers (13, 14) in the water below, and one of them ought to be visible on the surface from there, so kill him from the catwalk3. Run back and forth along the catwalk and when the other scuba diver surfaces, Lara can lock on with him4.

Now run to the left end of the catwalk, and turn right to face the large structure in the center of the room. The catwalk continues across a large gap, so take a running jump and grab to reach the next catwalk. For some reason, in our case, if the forward key was not released in the middle of the jump, Lara would miss the next ledge. Anyhow, continue forward to the end of the ledge and take a running jump and grab to reach the next little piece of catwalk that is ahead and slightly to the left. Nothing fancy about that jump. Now, from the right back corner, take a diagonal standing jump forward and to the right to the next ledge, that is being blocked by a steel support column.

Now ready pistols and sidestep to the right and walk forward until Lara is in the far right corner of the catwalk. Peek around the corner and she can see that ahead is a crewman (15) that is running around on a distant catwalk. Take one hop backward, being careful that the backward hop does not cause her to fall off the catwalk, and she will lock onto the crewman. Then open fire while take one or two walking steps forward, which keeps the crewman in Lara's sights, but conceals Lara slightly behind the central structure. After he's dead, stand again in the far right corner, and take one sidestep to the left, and aim Lara at the far corner of the next small catwalk. Take a hop back and a nearly blind standing jump, because of the strange camera angle, to land on the next ledge.
Shotgun
Stand in the far right corner of this small ledge and turn to the left to face the outside wall of the rig. Lara can see that a steel column is preventing her from taking a squarely aimed jump to the next catwalk, so aim her slightly to the right until her head is clearly past the column when the look button is pressed, and take a running jump, just missing the column and landing on the far catwalk. Turn and run to the right and stand adjacent to the steel support column. There is another rig worker (16) several catwalks away in the distance. Ready pistols, and turn to face the pillar squarely. Take a side flip to the right and if Lara locks onto the rig worker then open fire and stand using a distant column as cover or repeat the side to side jumping until she locks on. After that rig worker is dead, walk over to the dead crewman that Lara downed earlier on this catwalk, where Lara can pick up her shotgun (23).

Now walk to the end of the catwalk and turn left and take a running jump to the next catwalk, and ready weapons and turn and face right. In the distance is another rig worker (17), that is slightly out of range. Take a running step or two forward to achieve weapons lock, and then hop back. Lara will maintain weapons lock, while remaining out of the rig worker's targeting range. After he is dead, continue forward on the catwalk, turning left to pick up some shotgun shells (24) from the previously downed rig worker on this catwalk.

Now continue forward to the end of this catwalk and take a running jump forward and slightly to the right to reach the catwalk that is attached to the wall. Turn right and continue to the end of this catwalk, where Lara must take another angled running jump forward and to the right to reach the catwalk that is attached to the pillar.

Turn right and walk along this little ledge and stand facing squarely forward and against the edge of the column. Take two sidesteps to the right and angle Lara to the left, aiming her at the part of the next catwalk where there is no handrail. Now take a standing jump to reach the last catwalk.
Green Pass Card
Ready pistols and turn left. Shoot out the window of the little storage closet ahead, and then climb in and grab the Green Pass Card (25). Now return to the area of the catwalk that's missing handrails, and take a jump back to the previous catwalk. Walk forward and turn to the left in order to take a running jump back to the catwalk Lara was on before.
SECRET #3
At this point Lara could just climb out of this area, but then she'd miss the very important SECRET #3. This would be a great place to try to perform that swan dive with forward somersaults, so dive into the water below, and surface next to the nearest column. The item in question should be visible from the water. Climb out of the water, run forward, grab the Gold Dragon (26), a pair of Uzis (27), and two sets of Uzi clips (28, 29). Lara must move quickly here because, as soon as she picks up the items, enemies will appear on this platform. Side flip into the water, and swim for the adjacent column on the left, and climb out of the water on that column.

Ready pistols, from the safety of the other column and take out the two thugs (18, 19) that emerged on the base of the column that Lara was previously standing on. After they are dead, swim back to that column and collect a small Medi Pack (30) from the second of the two thugs to appear.

Dive back into the water and swim to the far corner of this room and climb onto the base of the column there. Take a standing jump and grab to get onto the ladder and then start climbing. At the top, shift to the right and release to land on a small ledge. Turn right and walk to the end of the catwalk.

Take a running jump and grab to reach the next catwalk. The next part should be familiar. Run forward, following the right turn in the catwalk. Turn left and take a running jump to the next catwalk. Run forward, taking a left turn to reach the end of that catwalk, and then take one more running jump to return to the ledge that leads to a tunnel. Walk to the right end of the catwalk.
Climb up into the tunnel, and run forward, following the tunnel's bend to the right. Run all the way up the sloping tunnel until Lara reaches the top. Now climb up the ladder on the right. Walk forward to the end of this tunnel, where ends with a drop. There is a thug (20) running around below. Lara can dangle herself briefly down the tunnel and then climb up, reverse, ready weapons and lock onto him. He will almost invariable run back back down the tunnel, but if Lara is locked onto him, then she can step forward, dropping down the shaft, and open fire on him as he runs back to attack her. She should be able to take him out before he lays a hand on her.

Grab the small Medi Pack (31) that the thug was formerly carrying. This should all be familiar turf. Run forward down the tunnel to the control room. Throw the switch to drain the right tank and fill up the left tank. Use the green pass card to open the door. Exit the door, turn left and run down the stairs. Run forward and dive into the tank that's once again filled with water. Swim down and forward into the underwater tunnel in the side of the tank. Swim down, following the tunnel to turn right then continue down where the tunnel turns left. Throw the lever on the left side of the wall to open the underwater gate, then swim forward and surface up ahead. Climb out of the water, and run forward to exit this level.

Footnotes:
  1. A beneficial bug can be employed here. Lara can reverse roll through the window and find herself on the other side. The enemies will stop chasing and firing on her, making it safe for her to retrieve her guns.

  2. At this point Lara can also turn right and surface in front of the jail cell, which altogether avoids the giant underwater propeller and the danger of getting sucked in and killed. However, this method will require to run the gauntlet again. Once Lara has surfaced and exited the pool, turn right and running past the thug and the crewman down the passageway, turning right and then once again, dashing up the stairs, and then through the broken window. This time, instead of dropping off the right side, drop off the front of the ledge, where the railing ends on the right. The most convenient thing is if the right window is broken, because if it is, Lara should run out the right window, onto the ledge, and then drop off to the ledge below.

  3. Lara will only be able to lock onto the scuba divers from this distance when they surface, which they do from time to time to shoot a flurry of harpoons at her. Attempting to take out the scuba divers from the catwalk can be long and tedious. The rationale for taking out the scuba divers earlier rather than later is because the first catwalk affords Lara the greatest cover from their harpoons and she doesn't have to worry about the other diver harpooning at her while she crosses the room.

  4. Either she can wait patiently for the other scuba diver to surface, or she can kill him later when she accidentally falls in. If the case is the former, make sure not to release the fire key, when Lara locks on because it will be difficult, but not impossible to lock on to the scuba divers with only pistols. The camera angle may get somewhat weird, but it sure beats waiting for the next time they surface. Just run back and forth on the catwalk and sooner or later the scuba diver will make a mistake.

    If the case is the latter, have Lara swim to the nearest pillar, and climb onto the base of the pillar at one of the striped yellow ledges. From the small platform, she can use pistols and jump back and forth to take out the scuba diver. If she does fall to the water, she will need to climb onto pillar in the back left corner of the huge room, where she can jump to a ladder, to climb back to the catwalks. With all that said, it should be clear that killing the scuba divers before continuing is the best, though probably slowest, strategy.
