Tibetan Foothills
Items: 31
Kills: 33
This level is not one long joyride as it you might think at first.
Bowling for Lara
That little camera cut that shows you the top of the distant hill is not a mere sightseeing trip. Dropping down into that next valley will trigger a series of avalanches. There's no where to hide from the first set of boulders, so that only leaves one recourse, aside from being flattened.
Making an Entrance
You'll need to make quite an entrance when you reach the ice wall. You need to get through it, but you don't know what's on the other side. Keep your cool. Take a jump and grab to reach safety. There is nothing of interest below. The path that leads forward is to the right.
Scenic Route
All you need to do is get across this ravine and pool. However, the way to do it is right under your nose. A new hazard you will need to be aware of are the huge icicles that hang precariously overhead. A hop, skip and a jump and you should be on the other side. Okay, it's a little longer than that, but it's not a big deal. Just keep an eye and an ear out for hawks.
Knock, Knock.
No one's home, but you need to get inside. You might as well know now that getting inside is pretty much the goal of this level. The real paradox is this: although you are standing at the beginning of this level, that hut is actually near the end.
Snowmobile Stunts
There's no tricks to the next part. It is clear where the snowmobile must go. However, before making the last jump, two icy blocks need to be moved out of the way, but don't be so naive, there'll be trouble waiting for you up there. Also remember, the snowmobile stops accelerating when it's no longer touching the ground, but when it lands, and you have the action key pressed, you're going to get hurt, so make it a habit to let go!
Fork in the Road
You will need to travel down both, as one opens the way to the other. Be very careful steering around this area, as one bad turn will drop you to your death.
Evil Kenivel
He's got nothing on Lara. You can make the giant jump with turbo boost and a good running start. Make sure you line up all your long jumps before you start. Course corrections while turbo boosting will almost always send you into a tailspin. In the room after the giant jump, Lara can actually get around the pit on the snowmobile. The snowmobile slides down the slopes just like Lara does, but it definitely has slightly more traction and lots more horsepower.
It's the Pits
Speaking of that big pit, there's something you need from deep within it. That fact will become painfully clear if you zip past the pit and continue on without it. Clearly one side of the pit is scalable, so you know what you need to do. As for the tunnel that leads to the cave in the opposite face of the pit, it beats me what that is for. Maybe just helps you see that there's a tunnel below. I could find no value in making that detour.
Ice Fishing
In the big cavern with the drawbridge, if you run around on the floor of the cavern, you will realize that most of the lower floor of the cavern is a pond that's frozen solid. There's something of value underneath the
Shhhhh! Quiet!
That's probably what that sign with the ice over it should say, but since when does Lara Croft heed warning signs? It's possible to cross "Avalanche Pass" on foot, but it's much easier on the snowmobile. The caveat is that once past boulders, the next part is easier on foot than on the snowmobile. It is very difficult, but not impossible. Give yourself as much of a running start as you can.
Hey! No Fair!
The avalanche that is triggered crashes through the frozen pond giving you access to your prize. The problem now is taking it and getting out of here alive. Lara will face an opponent that is much faster and out-guns her. By merely standing on the block with the key, will alert this foe. What's a girl to do? Here's a summary of what you know: 1) If you get hit by the snowmobile you're dead. 2) The snowmobile only shoots what's in front of it. 3) The snowmobiler will be coming in through that tunnel. The trick? Alert him, by taking a back flip onto that spot, then run forward and stand right by the entrance to the side with weapons ready. The fool will zip into the cavern and speed right past you, and you can start firing as soon as he arrives, and now you have a little room to maneuver.
Snowmobile Envy
Don't get greedy. His snowmobile might have bigger guns, but yours has, well... has... um... better gas mileage? But seriously, that snowmobile can't take you home. Don't worry, you'll get to put one through its paces later. There will be one spot in which you'll be convinced that even your trusty red snowmobile has let you down, but it hasn't. You don't have enough of a running start to get high enough to cross over to the opposite ramp, right? Well, maybe you can land somewhere slightly lower.
Inviting Trouble
Back at the hut, you will find the purpose of your long trek. But realize that the switch will flood the valley with bad guys. That's your warning. Don't panic too much. There are places to go to get away from them. Just get there quick.
Not Again!
Another unfair battle against a well armed foe? Yes, but once again, you can take the offensive. The snowmobile is hiding behind a ridge on the left. Take a jump straight for that ridge and surprise will be on your side.
Regrets
You thought that these sleek black snowmobiles was the greatest thing, but now you miss that little red job, don't you? It could have cleared this pit without getting anywhere near red-lining. You can leave the snowmobile behind, but you really should take it for this last part. What to people always say about tough obstacles? "If you can't get through it, maybe you can go around it."
Turkey Shoot
You think that now that you're armed to the teeth, they're going to send thugs after you so you can have yourself a little turkey shoot? Not a chance. The two snowmobilers will not be too much of a problem if 1) you stay moving, 2) continue to attempt to flank them, and 3) don't crash head-on with them and as a result "lock horns" with them.
Blocked Exit
The exit to the valley is... well... blocked. No big deal. Just push it out of the way. But once you do, get ready for another gun fight. However, now there's all these well-armed snow-mobiles lying around. It'd be a shame to let them go to waste.
Exit Stage Left
Well, first down, then left. Take care of the last mercenary from above before dropping in.
